You can often identify the objects without crushing or opening them.

Foam Beads

Polystyrene beads are usually:

  • Extremely lightweight
  • Perfectly or nearly perfectly round
  • Similar in size
  • Soft or slightly compressible
  • Easy to move with a breath or light airflow
  • Likely to stick to skin, fabric, or hair
  • Found in large numbers

They may squeak or rub together when handled.

Gecko Eggs

Gecko eggs are more likely to be:

  • Found alone or in pairs
  • Round or oval
  • Firm and shell-like
  • Heavier than foam beads
  • Slightly different from one another
  • Hidden in a crack or protected corner
  • Attached to a wall, wood, or another solid surface

Do not squeeze a suspected egg. If it appears natural, firm, and attached to a hidden surface, take a photograph and contact a local wildlife specialist or pest professional.
