Brussels sprouts may be one of the most misunderstood vegetables on the dinner table.
For years, they were associated with overcooked holiday sides, bitter flavors, and children quietly pushing them around the plate. But when they are roasted until crispy, seasoned properly, or paired with ingredients such as bacon, Parmesan, honey, or balsamic glaze, they become something completely different.
Today, Brussels sprouts appear on restaurant menus, pizzas, salads, and appetizer plates. Some people tolerate them. Others genuinely love them.

If you belong to the second group, these signs will probably sound familiar.
1. You Always Defend Them
The moment someone says Brussels sprouts are disgusting, you feel the need to respond.
“They were probably overcooked.”
“You need to roast them.”
“Have you tried them with balsamic?”
You know that badly prepared Brussels sprouts can be soft, bitter, and unpleasant. But you also know that properly cooked sprouts can be crispy on the outside, tender inside, and full of flavor.
You do not blame the vegetable. You blame the cooking method.
2. You Order Them at Restaurants
Most people begin by scanning the menu for burgers, pasta, or fries.
You look for Brussels sprouts.
Once you spot roasted sprouts with Parmesan, bacon, garlic, hot honey, or balsamic glaze, the decision is practically made. The rest of the meal becomes less important.
You may even judge a restaurant by how well it prepares them.
If they arrive browned, crisp, and properly seasoned, you are impressed. If they arrive pale and soggy, you feel personally disappointed.
3. You Know Roasting Changes Everything
Boiling Brussels sprouts for too long helped create their bad reputation.
