Of course you’re counting.

Or are you?

Instead, it takes shortcuts.

Thousands of them.

Every second.

If your brain processed every piece of information manually, even simple tasks would become exhausting.

So instead, it uses patterns.

Predictions.

Assumptions.

Most of the time, those shortcuts save enormous amounts of mental energy.

But sometimes…

They trick us.
